Green Street Hooligans (Review)

Cast: Elijah Wood, Chalie Hunnam, Claire Forlani and Leo Gregory.

Director: Lexi Alexander.

Review:

This film has achieved a big goal and popularity. Snagging multiple awards at US film festivals and showing a solid audience. It shows a drama film between Hooliganism in England.  Weird but true, "Hooligans" is the story of female director Lexi Alexander. This film is unique because of its violent subject matter. You may wonder what cand we learn about this topic.

It can seem that violence is the only important thing, but there are more things to take into account such us: how silly can be this kind of violence, how many damages can couse not only to a person but to a hold family. So, what we principally learn is how essential a friendship can be and the way in which it can "flourish". Remember that it is based on real facts, so, that´s what happens in England, astounding and true.

Last but not least, although Hooligans is a film about football fanatics that go over the edge, Alexander creates characters that are much more three-dimensional than your classic villain. In doing so, the message she strives to tell is unclear: is Hooligans a cautionary story or does Alexander’s personal history lend for an understanding and acceptance of the firm subculture?

To sum up, I like the way the characters play their role but otherwise, there are some aspects that doesn´t convince me at all, is it necessary to show so much violence? Sometimes during I was watching the film, fights and punches made me feel bad. Anyway, I give good point to this film.

How to make a Flexagon

How to Make a Tri-hexaflexagon

Read all of the steps before starting.
Step 1: Choose a Pattern and Print It
Choose a tri-hexaflexagon to make. Download and print the pattern.
Choose a design that prints in color, or select the black & white pattern and use your creativity to add color and designs. There is also a pattern with numbers for each face—1, 2 and 3.

http://www.auntannie.com/Geometric/Flexagon/TriHexaFlexagonStars.pdf
Step 2: Color Pattern (optional)
Color the pattern template as you like with markers, colored pencils or crayons. You don't need to color the glue tabs marked with '*'.
Step 3: Cut
Cut around the pattern on the outline. Try to make the cuts very straight and accurate. There will be one piece with twenty triangles.
Step 4: DoubleFold in half and glue
Make a double thickness by folding the pattern piece in half lengthwise and glue. To make a sharp, straight fold, first score on the fold line.
To score: Use a ruler and the empty ballpoint pen (or bone folder) to make an indent along the fold lines.
Step 5: FoldTri-hexaflexagon - fold and glue
Score and fold back and forth on all the solid lines. Do this for each of the 10 triangles of the tri-hexaflexagon.
Place the folded pattern with the side without glue tabs facing up, and the end with a green (2) triangle to the left. Fold back on the line between the yellow (3rd) and blue (4th) triangles (1 and 3)—four yellow triangles (1s) are together now. Fold back on the line between the yellow and blue triangles (1 and 3). Now you should be able to see five yellow triangles (1s). Pull the yellow triangle (1) forward that is behind the green triangle (2). There should be six yellow triangles (1s) on top and a blue triangle (3) to the side. Fold the blue triangle (3) back.
The two glue tabs marked with '*' are now face-to-face. Glue them together. Wait for the glue to dry before flexing your flexagon.
Step 6: FlexHow to flex the tri-hexaflexagon
Fold the flexagon to bring together three alternate corners of the flexagon. The top of the flexagon will pop open if there is a new face to reveal. If it doesn't pop open, flatten the flexagon and try again with the other three corners.
As you flex the flexagon in this project, see if you can find all the possible combinations of faces. The tri-hexaflexagon has three faces in three combinations.

Dear Mr Martin,
As a student in representation of 2º Bach, I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposal about reconsidering the amount of exams we have. I am not saying having exams is a problem, I know it is necessary to evaluate the staff we know, what I´m trying to say is that most of the times we see ourselves drowned due to exams.

First of all, the main problem is that instead of having two exams of each subject per term, we are having until four!, that´s an outrageous. We have complained but nobody listen to us. Not only we are making a big effort this year in order to have good califications but also nobody is paying us for that. To make matters worse, we are who have to pay to school.

Circumstances do not allow me go on writing anymore. That is why I strongly urge you to reject this irresponsible idea of having loads of exams. I suggest  you speaking with teachers and making changes.

I look forward to your reply
Yours faithfully,
Elena Ortiz Miguel

Which kind of role model do you want to follow?

Constantly, famous peple become instant stars for doing nothing! Do you want to follow that kind of role models?

On the one hand, it´s eassier to consider a famous person than a person who is not. Why? Because he or she is always in the spotlight, (most of times because of outrageous behaviors), appears on TV, gala parties His/hers stereotype and figure are like a magnet for you, for instance, girls are always gorgeous.

On the other hand, there also peple who are famous for doing good things and worthy for society like Steve Jobs. Here is a serious problem: are we concerned about what happens whit that kind of people? Although they can be instant stars, of course, after a year pass everybody has forgotten him.

To sump up, take your time and make a reflection of the role model you have now to follow. Think if he or she is the correct one, and if it is necessary, make any changes, it will be good for you.

Describe the picture:

This is a photo of a group of friends dancing and having a celebration. It is a very colorful and happy scene because of the fireworks and people´s faces, as you can see, almost all of them are smiling.

It´s outdoors. It´s seems to be summer because girls are wearing sundresses. One the one hand, one women is wearing a blue dress and the other a flowery black and white one.
On the other hand, men are wearing light trausers and shirts.

I imagine that peple can be next to the sea. In the background there isn´t anything except the fireworks.

They might won a sports competition or something like that and this is why they have gone wild.

World hunger overestimated

I´ve taken news from a webpage useful for learning english: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/

It´s useful because of many reasons: you can listen to what you read, learn vocabulary, do quizzes, listen to the radio, watch tv...

Here is a report about famine, I have choosen this report because I believe it´s something that affects to the whole society.

At he end of the post is the link that allows you to hear the report.

Summary

11 October 2012
The United Nations has conceded that it has overestimated the number of people suffering from hunger around the world. But a new study has shown that about 870 million people are still chronically undernourished, a figure described as 'unacceptable'.

Report

A few years ago the United Nations announced that the number of hungry people around the world had gone through the one billionmark. But the UN agencies now say that at the time their datatended to exaggerate the problem. They say progress in the fight against hunger has actually been better than was thought.
But all the same, new and more accurate figures show that just under 870 million people are malnourished today. That's more than 12% of the global population. And in Africa the battle is being lost. More and more people there are hungry. One of the UN agency chiefs said that in this advanced age it was "entirely unacceptable" that 100 million children don't get enough to eat.
The report talked of the need for economic growth that might provide vulnerable communities with greater income-earning opportunities. But, as it looked for long-term solutions, the UN also spoke of the importance of good governance, political stability and the rule of law. The creation of conditions in which economies, and education and health services, might develop in the poorest parts of the world.

Celebrity couples – a marriage that survived

Unfortunately, in Hollywood, lasting relationships are rare. A show-business career is highly predictable and if both partners are well-known film stars constantly in the public eye, it is hard to maintain any kind of stability in a marriage.

Problems can come to a marriage because of many reasons such us: the inheritance, disgraceful gossips, outrageous behaviors, scandals, negative publicity of lavish events…

However, one delightful film-star couple, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, who first met each other is 1952, have managed to survive their glamorous movie lifestyle and all the difficulties that go with it. Woodward, though, has confessed that in their early years she was for a long time extremely uncomfortable with her husband´s rising fame and popularity.  She also thought that, in terms of their personal relationship, the press were unacceptable intrusive. Despite the sacrifices the couple have made, their partnership has endured.

First composition

Here is my first composition with expressions that we have just learnt at school. I hope it to be of help.

Important expressions will be underlined.

Teaching English

It´s hard being back not only for students but also for teachers.

I´m sure the most difficult subject to study this year won´t be English.

English teachers try to give us useful vocabulary to use in compositions, grammar... so that we can pass selectividad successfully.

To have a good grab of the language it´s important to pay atention during the lesson and after that try to use it commonly. However, it´s not so easy as it seems, sometimes it becames a big problem which not everyone can cope with, just because we forgot trying it.

Teachers are always totally right when they say: passing this year is easy provided that you study, on the contrary, having good marks is difficult.

Anyway, at the end of the coming year, everyone will be studying a degree in a University.
